Yaya Toure has confirmed interest from Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic, though he says he must speak with Brendan Rodgers before any decision is made. The midfielder completed an eight-year spell with Manchester City last summer, leaving the club at the end of the season.Toure won three Premier League titles, three League Cups, an FA Cup and a Community Shield as a player on the blue side of Manchester. His next stop was a short one, as Toure rejoined Olympiakos, the team he had spent the 2005-06 season with. Despite only signing in September, Toure’s contract was terminated three months later via mutual consent.Reports have linked him with a move to Celtic, who are tied with Rangers atop the Scottish Premiership in points, where his brother Kolo is an assistant under Rodgers. And speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Toure admitted there is interest from the Scottish club, but will require further discussions with the manager before any agreement is reached.“Celtic are a great team, but I will speak to Brendan Rodgers there and we will see what happens,” Toure said.Manchester City remain competitive on all fronts this season, and the quadruple, winning in the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup, still remains a possibility.Going hard in all four of the competitions could end up being a detriment for City as they not only aim to secure Champions League glory for the first time, but also overtake Liverpool in the Premier League. But Toure believes Pep Guardiola is intent on not sacrificing any competition, and hopes to win them all.“I think now the big question is if City are going to go for the Premier League or the Champions League or the League Cup or the FA Cup?” Toure said. “I don’t think so, I think he’s going to go for all of them.“I think the Champions League is the big, big one. To be honest, the cups – the League Cup and the FA Cup – can become a distraction.“Why? Because the Champions League and the Premier League is the big, big target for Man City.”Asked about whether it was a different situation in Spain with the top clubs there compared to England, Toure said he thinks it is, noting how difficult the English top flight is.“Yes, to be honest it is different,” Toure said. “Different, different, different type of football.“The Premier League is one of the top leagues in the world. In Spain, these teams – Real Madrid and Barcelona – have been recently winning Champions League but the Premier League is the competition. The physicality is so, so high.“And I hope he will do it. It’ll be good for the fans and good for the football club.”Let’s believe it. I know it’s not going to be easy but I hope City will try to do it.”
NORMAN, OK – SEPTEMBER 11: The Oklahoma Sooner Schooner carries the American flag on the anniversary of September 11 at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on September 11, 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma. (Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)The Oklahoma Sooners are the favorites in the Big 12 once again this season. They’re also expected to compete for the national championship. But that doesn’t mean the Sooners don’t have weaknesses. Every team does, and they aren’t immune. Most would assume Oklahoma’s biggest question mark involves the quarterback position. Baker Mayfield is gone, and it is up to Kyler Murray to replace at least most of his prodigious production.ESPN, however, thinks the Sooners’ most glaring issue is on the other side of the ball.ESPN Big 12 reporter Jake Trotter labeled safety as Oklahoma’s “biggest question mark” in a feature that dropped today. The Sooners should be improved at cornerback, but safety remains a huge concern. Incoming freshman Brendan Radley-Hiles, who starred in the spring, is already assured of manning either nickelback or back safety. But OU will need others to emerge to solidify a secondary that has been unreliable the past two seasons.Oklahoma will face its fair share of prolific passing offenses in the Big 12, so a sturdy pass defense is a must. We’ll see if safety is as big of an issue as Trotter projects it to be.You can read the rest of ESPN’s analysis on the entire preseason Top 25 here.

(Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)The 2019 recruiting class is not believed to be a good one for quarterbacks. Some analysts are calling it the worst QB class they’ve ever seen. There’s not a ton of depth or elite talent at the top.The best quarterback in the class might be Graham Mertz, a four-star pro-style quarterback out of Kansas. “I’ve heard from coaches that (he) is the best QB recruit nationally and gotta say, he looks damn good at Elite 11,” says SB Nation Recruiting.Mertz is currently committed to Wisconsin. However, the commitment to the Badgers might not last…Several other major programs are pursuing Mertz hard. Despite the fact that he’s committed to Wisconsin, those programs are making him a serious priority. Both Ohio State and Notre Dame have made him their No. 1 QB target.A flipped commitment might be on the table.“Notre Dame working hard to flip him from Wisconsin,” says Irish Illustrated.Good show from Irish quarterback target Graham Mertz at Elite 11. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)Auburn and head coach Gus Malzahn are reportedly close to a new agreement to remain with the program. Earlier this week, rumors suggested Malzahn would be replaced by former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, though those rumors were quieted by Stoops himself. Now, Auburn is in the midst of reducing Malzahn’s buyout and allowing him to return for the 2019 season.According to Phillip Marshall of 247Sports, Auburn plans to reduce Malzahn’s “by an unspecified amount.”Here’s more from the report:Malzahn’s buyout, sources said, would be reduced by an unspecified amount. Any coaching staff moves would have to be revenue neutral, effectively removing the possibility of paying buyouts for assistant coaches and assuring Chip Lindsey would remain as offensive coordinator unless he chooses to leave. The move effectively makes it easier to move on from Malzahn in the future. In six season as the team’s head coach, Malzahn racked up a 52-27 record and six bowl games.Stay tuned for more on the coaching front.[247Sports]

(Photo by Jamie Sabau/Getty Images)Widely considered the top prospect in the 2019 NFL Draft, Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa has seldom stepped onto a football field since leaving the team last Fall. After months of preparation, Bosa finally showed off his speed at the NFL Scouting Combine. This morning, Bosa ran the 40-yard dash as part of his drills. Bosa ran an unofficial 40-time of 4.84 seconds. While not a record-breaking mark by any stretch, the mark does put Bosa in very good company. Houston Texans pass rusher J.J. Watt ran the exact same time at the 2011 combine. However, Watt’s 40-time was considerably more impressive given that he weighed nearly 30 pounds heavier than Bosa does. His older brother Joey Bosa is a star pass rusher for the LA Chargers, while his father, John Bosa, was a first-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 1987.Many mock drafts currently have Bosa as the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2019.
ClemsonEvery season, Clemson adds a new tombstone outside of the team’s football complex for each win over a ranked team away from home. As you can imagine, that cemetery has gotten pretty crowded. The Tigers have developed into one of the truly elite teams in college football. In 2018-19, they took home their second national championship under Dabo Swinney.Along the way, Clemson knocked off No. 17 Boston College on the road, and then Nos. 3 Notre Dame and 1 Alabama in the College Football Playoff. Each of those Clemson victories has earned a new tombstone, unveiled on Wednesday. From the Tigers’ Twitter account:Today, we unveiled our newest tombstone additions next to Reeves Football Complex. For every Top 25 team the Tigers defeat away from Death Valley, we add a tombstone. There were several new additions after this season 🐅🏆 #ALLIN pic.twitter.com/hY4tP0LMWb— Clemson Football (@ClemsonFB) March 14, 2019That is a pretty great way to keep the team inspired after an early spring practice.Swinney’s team has made it a habit of adding to the collection every year, since he took over the program in 2008.In October 2009, Clemson knocked off No. 10 Miami on the road. This year’s three additions bring the total to 18 tombstones under Swinney by my count.Of course, that Alabama tombstone is going to be the highlight, perhaps of the entire display. That clinched a 15-0 season, and one that Clemson is happy to promote as the greatest in college football history. That is up for debate, but the Tigers team has to be in the discussion at least.
ATHENS, GA – SEPTEMBER 26: The Southern University Jaguars Human Jukebox Band performs at halftime of the game against the Georgia Bulldogs on September 26, 2015 at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia. (Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images)Georgia is being understandably cautious with the health of running back Zamir White. The former five-star has had a pair of ACL tears over the last few years. In 2017, as a senior, White tore his ACL late in the season. He actually didn’t realize the extend of the injury until Georgia’s medical staff took a look, ahead of him joining the program. He had a pretty quick turnaround, and was set to play last season, but weeks ahead of the start of the 2018 campaign, White tore his other ACL. That occurred in Georgia practice, during a punt drill.Once again, White is working his way back, but Kirby Smart and company are going to let him recover at his own pace.On Tuesday, Kirby Smart gave an update on Zamir White’s injury status as we enter spring. From 247Sports:“I don’t know that I can answer [how much he’ll contribute.] That’s going to come in fall camp,” Smart said. “I think any time you have a non-contact ACL and then you have a second one, you’ve got to be careful because we’re talking about two different knees and completely non-contact injuries. When that happens, it makes you, hey, is the kid going to be able to progress this time as fast as he did last time. For us, he’s going to be able to do some. He’s running. He’s running really well. He’s doing a lot of straight-line stuff. He’s just not going to be involved in the scrimmage and in the contact part.”That sounds relatively optimistic, but don’t expect to see much from White until the summer and fall. And even then, he plays at a position at which Georgia has plenty of talent. D’Andre Swift returns after leading the team with 1,049 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018.Still, White has the potential to be a big-time college star. As a five-star member of the 2018 class, he was the top running back in the country, and No. 9 overall per 247Sports.[247Sports]
PASADENA, CA – JANUARY 01: Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer celebrates winning the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual at the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2019 in Pasadena, California. (Photo by Harry How/Getty Images)Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh took a shot at former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer this week, claiming that “controversy” has followed him throughout his career.“Urban Meyer’s had a winning record. Really phenomenal record everywhere he’s been,” Harbaugh said on The Athletic’s The TK Show podcast Thursday. “But also, controversy follows everywhere he’s been.”Harbaugh didn’t back down from his comment during his Big Ten Media Days press conference, either.“I don’t think it was anything that was new, or anything of a bombshell,” Harbaugh said. “It’s things that you all understand and have written about.” Meyer retired from Ohio State at the end of 2018 following a season clouded by the Zach Smith domestic violence scandal. Meyer had previously coached at Florida, where several of his players dealt with off-the-field legal issues.Harbaugh, of course, is 0-4 against Meyer and Ohio State, so his comments are seen as sour grapes by many, including Nicki Meyer Dennis.“Wait guys maybe this is a deflection strategy! Throw a little mud to avoid answering why you always lost. #RespectTheRivalry 7-OH (0-4 lol),” she wrote.Harbaugh, while not necessarily wrong with his comment about Meyer, is certainly going to have to face more questions about it heading into the 2019 rivalry game against Ohio State.Michigan is set to host Ohio State in Ann Arbor on Nov. 30.

Samsung Galaxy A2 Core render leaked, likely to be Android Go phoneThe Galaxy A2 Core could be the successor to last year’s Galaxy J2 Core Android Go phone. The Galaxy A2 Core will sport a 16:9 display and may ship with Android Pie (Go edition).advertisement Sanket Vijayasarathy New DelhiMarch 15, 2019UPDATED: March 18, 2019 14:12 IST Picture Courtesy: Evan BlassHIGHLIGHTSThe Galaxy A2 Core will likely be an Android Go smartphone.A new render shows off the Galaxy A2 Core’s 16:9 display. The Galaxy A2 Core may launch on March 22.Samsung could soon announce a new Android Go smartphone, called the Galaxy A2 Core. Tipster Evan Blass has shared what looks to be an official press render of the Galaxy A2 Core, revealing the design from the front and back. You may recall that company launched its first Android Go device, the Galaxy J2 Core, last year with a pretty similar design. The Galaxy A2 Core is possibly its successor considering Samsung has unofficially killed the Galaxy J-series.The render posted by Blass on Twitter shows a very traditional-looking smartphone with a 16:9 aspect ratio and evenly thick bezels on the top and bottom. The Samsung branding can be seen on the front and back of the Galaxy A2 Core. The rear panel has been revealed in black and blue colours, which might be the only colour options on offer when the device launches. The Galaxy A2 Core will come with a plastic polycarbonate rear panel, but we aren’t sure yet whether it is of the removable kind. The panel is pretty much clean with no fingerprint sensor, which is not surprising for an entry-level smartphone. There is a single primary camera on the top left corner with a LED flash below it. The speaker griller is also seen below the camera module.Blass hasn’t specifically mentioned whether the Galaxy A2 Core will be an Android Go smartphone, but it wouldn’t be wrong to assume this. We expect the Galaxy A2 Core to launch with Android Pie (Go edition) that promises to offer faster load times and better optimisation compared to the previous iteration. As an Android Go device, the Galaxy A2 Core will come with customised Google Go apps like Mail Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go and so on that are designed to work smoothly on low memory and storage. It also won’t be wrong to assume that the Galaxy A2 Core will come with 1GB of RAM.advertisementAs of now, there is no word on when Samsung will announce the Galaxy A2 Core. The date mentioned on the render is March 22, which could suggest that Samsung will launch the device next week.ALSO READ | Samsung Galaxy A50 review: Premium features now come at an affordable priceGet real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story? World Cup 2019: Angelo Mathews wants Sri Lanka to ’embrace the challenge’Stating that the players are not new to conditions in England, Sri Lanka veteran Angelo Matthews said it was the occassion and the nature of the tournament that would make the difference.advertisement Indo-Asian News Service LondonMay 28, 2019UPDATED: May 28, 2019 09:09 IST Most players in Sri Lankan team are coming back into the ODI side after lengthy spells on the sidelines (AP Photo)Sri Lanka’s Angelo Matthews has urged his teammates to not let pressure situations get to them and play with freedom. Sri Lanka, who won the World Cup in 1996 and were runner-up in 2007 and 2011, come into the 2019 edition of the tournament as rank under-dogs.Moreover, most players are coming back into the ODI side after lengthy spells on the sidelines, including captain Dimuth Karunaratne who has not played an ODI since 2015.”In a big tournament like this, you’ve got to play with freedom and embrace it, rather than putting too much pressure on yourself,” Matthews is quoted as saying by the ICC.”Yes, it’s a World Cup, you have to perform well to win it. But at the same time you have to embrace the challenge. If you put a lot of pressure on yourself, it adds to your burden. Try and embrace it, look at it as an opportunity to perform, to do something better for the country,” he said.Stating that the players are not new to conditions in England, Matthews said it was the occassion and the nature of the tournament that would make the difference.”The biggest challenge will be in overcoming pressure situations,” Matthews is quoted as saying by the ICC. “Quite a lot of us have played in England and we know the conditions. But handling the pressure and the situations well is going to be the challenge,” he said.Meanwhile, Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene on Monday criticized former captains Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal by saying that both had become the victims of ‘cricket politics’. Soon, Mathews took to Twitter to respond to Mahela’s charges.advertisementMathews was the skipper of Sri Lanka across formats when Mahela announced his retirement in 2015 but since then the Lankan captaincy has resembled a game of musical chairs with Chandimal, Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga, Chamara Kapugedara and lately Dimuth Karunaratne getting a chance to lead the side. The phenomenon has also coincided with declining results for the side in white-ball cricket.Defending his role during the captaincy stint, Mathews took to Twitter on Sunday and agreed that everyone including Mahela ‘has their opinion’ while urging his senior to help the team ‘with his knowledge and encouragement’ during the upcoming World Cup.”Thanks for the concern guys everyone has their opinion and mj (Mahela Jayawardene) has his too.suprised to see some of his comments while denying them my top priority now is the World Cup and I urge mj to help us with his knowledge and encouragement in this crucial time which will mean a lot Thankyou”: Mathews wrote on Twitter. Also read | Surprised by Jayawardene’s comments: Angelo Mathews responds to captaincy criticismFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
