first_imgIf you’ve been wanting some tiny, fuzzy balls of love warming up your home with their preciousness, the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter needs your help.Spring and summer mean cats are having kittens, and Jessie Melton with TMAS said they’ve been inundated with so many they don’t have enough room. Their goal is keeping any potential pets from being euthanized, and foster homes give the cat families a chance at growing up in a comfortable environment before they’re adopted out.“Well kitten season starts late spring, early summer,” Melton said. “We have a lot of kittens come in all at once. So we really need a lot of fosters for kittens.”The shelter’s biggest goal is finding permanent and loving homes for the hundreds of animals brought there each year, and foster homes help ensure fewer animals are euthanized. And anyone who wants to help is welcomed with open arms.“Come adopt and come foster,” Melton said. “Even if you can’t foster or you can’t adopt, you can come volunteer. Or you can donate some items that we might need to give to fosters like litter boxes or cat beds or dog beds, or toys of some sort.”Melton said there’s one more thing pet owners can do to help TMAS and the excessive animal population.“Spay and neuter your animals, even if they are strictly inside pets,” Melton said. “They can always slip out and get lost.”If you’re interested in fostering or adopting a cat, dog, kitten or puppy — or maybe some combination of the above — visit metroanimalshelter.orglast_img
