first_img News Facebook Twitter SHARE By Daily NK – 2012.09.10 11:49am News Entire border patrol unit in North Hamgyong Province placed into quarantine following “paratyphoid” outbreak News RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHORcenter_img [imText1]On the 7th, journalists in Seoul were treated to a preview of ‘Jeongmyeong’, a new play jointly produced by North and South Korean university students as part of September’s “North Korea Human Rights Month.” A re-working of Albert Camus’ classic play ‘Les Justes’ (aka ‘The Just Assassins’), ‘Jeongmyeong’ is about a group of defectors who form the ‘North Chosun Revolutionary Association’ to plan a terrorist attack on regime informants.In the original Camus play it is the fate of a group of Russian Socialist-Revolutionaries that is used to discuss the moral issues raised by terrorist acts.With the exception of three 3rd year drama students from Chungang University, the cast of ‘Jeongmyeong’ is made up of amateurs with no prior acting experience. However, Sim Ha Yoon, who plays the lead role, told Daily NK that this is one of the play’s practical strengths. Sim explained, “There is no actor we could have brought in who would have matched the sheer urgency of our defector friends. There are a number of occasions when watching them act pulls at your heart strings.”“It is hard to understand members of this Revolutionary Association, people who are willing to die for the freedom of the North Korean people and for an idea, but I could empathize after meeting with these defector friends and acting together,” he went on.‘Jeongmyeong’ is open to the public from September 11th to 23rd (8PM weekdays, 4PM and 7PM on Saturdays and 4PM on Sundays) at Myeongdong ‘Changgo Theatre’.
