The introduction of the controversial new system has placed defending champions Cornwall College second on the seeding chart facing number 31 seed Morant Bay High at Paul Bogle High at 3 p.m. Cornwall have not looked the impressive team they were last year in the first round. They lost to minnows Maldon in the first round and and coach Dr Dean Weatherly said there are no easy games in this round and he expects a tough game against a well-coached team. “Although they (Morant Bay) are seeded at 31, we can’t take them lightly … it’s a well-coached team, from what I heard, they are playing good football. We hope to come out victorious, but it won’t be a walk in the park because we expecting them to throw everything at us,” Weatherly said. Weatherly believes that while his team this year might lack a lot of individual talent, it is more rounded and depend less on any one player. “The team last year would probably have a better strike force in individual talent, but I think this team is more an all-round one. Last year, we had that individual we could go to and it probably caused our downfall in a couple of matches, so although we may not have that prolific striker, we have a rounded team,” said Weatherly. Coach of Morant Bay High Darian Lard said there is a confident mood in the camp as the team hasn’t been to the second round of the competition for a long time. They will be looking to pull off an upset win. “A win would be a dream come true especially for the people in the parish,” said Lard. Today’s gameslast_img read more
