LSU’s Cam Cameron has ‘clean bill of health’ for cancer

first_imgLSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has been treated for prostate cancer.LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron has been treated for prostate cancer.BATON ROUGE – LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron announced Friday night that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer several weeks ago, but has already gone through weeks of treatment and has received a clean bill of health.LSU head coach Les Miles, his other assistant coaches and most of the players and staff knew of Cameron’s condition and they were planning on keeping his condition among just themselves and Cameron’s family, but word of Cameron’s condition leaked out to news media on Friday. At that point, Miles decided to have LSU’s sports information department call a press conference for 6 p.m.Cameron’s complete statement to reporters at the LSU football facility follows:“Well, who called this press conference? Hey, appreciate the concern. I don’t necessarily know what’s out there (in news stories). But I know we’d like to address one thing. I’m fine. My health is good. I’ve been given a clean bill of health. I’ve been involved throughout the entire training camp, looking forward to this season and all the goals that you see in this room, obviously, I’m involved that. And nothing’s changed from that regard. The one thing I would want to say is just these last few weeks, just the support from this program and our players and Coach Miles and our staff, I’ve never experienced anything quite like it.“It’s been awesome for me and my family. And I think that’s been a big part of just how this thing has progressed in such a positive way. Les communicating with our staff and Joe Alleva (LSU athletic director) and then our staff just doing a tremendous job, our entire offensive coaching staff and defensive coaching staff for that matter. But, I’m good. I’m fine. I just want you to know that, and I do appreciate the concern. And on behalf of my family, just want to again thank everybody for their support, and we’re looking forward to this season and we’ll be moving on from here.”LSU opens the season a week from Saturday against McNeese State in Tiger Stadium.last_img read more
