Crystal Palace boost as key man closes in on return

first_img Julian Speroni 1 Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni says he is battling back to full fitness after sustaining a hand injury in pre-season.The Eagles cult hero partially tore a ligament between two fingers in his right hand during a training session in South Africa and is expected to be out for at least another four to six weeks. However, the 36-year-old is due to have a scan on the injury this week and is hoping he will be back sooner rather than later to challenge new signing Alex McCarthy for the No.1 jersey at Selhurst Park.“I’m positive that things will go well with the scan and see how things develop during the week,” Speroni told the Palace matchday programme.“I’ll have a scan and make sure it’s healing properly and if it is then I can push a little harder. “I have done some handling work and it felt OK but it takes to four to six weeks to completely heal, so I need to be careful as I don’t want to rush it and something happens again and instead of four weeks it becomes two months.”last_img read more
