Tori Martella named GSC Defensive Player of the Week

first_imgGSC Release BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of West Florida volleyball junior libero Tori Martella (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence HS) was named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Tuesday morning. This is the second time Martella has been awarded the weekly conference honor this season.Martella earned GSC Defensive Player of the Week honors after tallying 60 digs last week in three matches. The junior averaged 6.00 digs per set and had an impressive 24-dig performance (8 digs per set) against Mississippi College on Tuesday. Martella currently ranks second in the GSC in digs per set (4.95). No. 22 West Florida will wrap up the regular season with a two-match home stand this weekend against a pair of conference opponents. UWF will host North Alabama on Friday, November 13 at 7 p.m. CT before facing Alabama Huntsville on Saturday, November 14 at 2 p.m. CT. UWF has already clinched a birth in the 2015 GSC Tournament and will be looking to host the tournament for the first time since 2013.
