ClemsonEvery season, Clemson adds a new tombstone outside of the team’s football complex for each win over a ranked team away from home. As you can imagine, that cemetery has gotten pretty crowded. The Tigers have developed into one of the truly elite teams in college football. In 2018-19, they took home their second national championship under Dabo Swinney.Along the way, Clemson knocked off No. 17 Boston College on the road, and then Nos. 3 Notre Dame and 1 Alabama in the College Football Playoff. Each of those Clemson victories has earned a new tombstone, unveiled on Wednesday. From the Tigers’ Twitter account:Today, we unveiled our newest tombstone additions next to Reeves Football Complex. For every Top 25 team the Tigers defeat away from Death Valley, we add a tombstone. There were several new additions after this season 🐅🏆 #ALLIN pic.twitter.com/hY4tP0LMWb— Clemson Football (@ClemsonFB) March 14, 2019That is a pretty great way to keep the team inspired after an early spring practice.Swinney’s team has made it a habit of adding to the collection every year, since he took over the program in 2008.In October 2009, Clemson knocked off No. 10 Miami on the road. This year’s three additions bring the total to 18 tombstones under Swinney by my count.Of course, that Alabama tombstone is going to be the highlight, perhaps of the entire display. That clinched a 15-0 season, and one that Clemson is happy to promote as the greatest in college football history. That is up for debate, but the Tigers team has to be in the discussion at least.
